Why You Should Avoid Yo Yo Dieting - Useful Facts You May Not Know

It's a very common thing with Hollywood celebrities and with us "normal" people. It's the invisible tie that binds the big, bold and the beautiful with the regular everyday folks. It's called yoyo dieting and it's no fun at all. Exactly what is this phenomenon and how come so many seem to fall into this deadly trap?
Yoyo dieting occurs when people significantly lose weight one day only to gain it all back months or even weeks later. It's unhealthy, both physically and psychologically. Physically, because it wrecks havoc to your body systems that have to attune different metabolic, circulatory and gastrointestinal processes in between relatively short periods of time. It is psychologically damaging since you will naturally feel embarrassed receiving compliments on their svelte figures one day and face the wondering and bewildered look from the same people a couple of weeks later. Many individual's weights tend to see-saw when they engage in fad diets and focus on short-term fast lose weight schemes rather than on overall healthy lifestyle changes.
Here are some tips to help you avoid yoyo dieting:
1. Don't go on a diet that you cannot abide with for life. Many go on fad diets that severely restrict the kinds of foods they can eat or those that take intensive calorie-counting to prepare. Others buy diets that are pre-cooked, packed and delivered right to their doorsteps. The problem with fad diets and these other diet schemes involving prepackaged meals is that they're only good for a certain time. They are also marked by severe calorie restriction that your body feels deprived of the necessary nutrients that after the diet, you tend to eat more, making you even gain more weight than before. The solution? To eat healthier food choices and to engage in a diet that is in keeping with a person's natural way-of-life.
2. Make dietary changes part of an overall program to lead a healthier life. When you focus on diet alone, it will be difficult to find the motivation to sustain it. However, when coupled with a sound exercise program and healthy living, then it becomes a commitment to overall health and wellness.
3. Favor slow but sure changes. Most go into the trap of yoyo dieting and ultimately fail in their weight loss efforts because they want instant results. They want to lose 10 pounds in a week when it's not healthy! They are lured by the promise of 'fast results' that they buy diet pills whose long-term safety has not been established.
There is no walk-in-the park solution to weight loss. Diet plays a crucial role in the success to win over those excess fats. However, success can't be won overnight and neither can it be done by keeping the weight on and off. Focus should be on incremental lifestyle changes that have tremendous impact on your health for the long-term.
By thinking of lifestyle changes that can be done slowly but surely, losing the weight can be healthier for our body systems.

Study Regarding the Surgical Treatment for Excessive Sweating

In April of 2007, the report of a study regarding surgical treatment for excessive sweating was released. This condition, known medically as hyperhidrosis, typically affects the underarms, palms of the hands, face and feet. The number of people who suffer from this condition is surprisingly high at around 3% of the global population.
The goal of the surgery was to reduce the amount of sweating in people with this condition, which can mean that they sweat three or four times the amount of someone without the condition. In the surgery, the nerves are cut that are responsible for sending the signals to the sweat glands in the affected areas.
The study team at the Barrow Neurological Institute, located in Phoenix, AZ, analyzed the results of 300 patients who had surgery as a treatment for excessive sweating.
The exact cause of the condition is not well understood, but results in an over-activity of the nerves that send the signals to the sweat glands. While there are other available treatments such as specialty deodorants, Botox injections and others, surgery is considered an option when these other remedies are proven ineffective at making excessive sweating stop.
The results of the surgery are worth noting. While the surgery stopped excessive sweating in the palms in over 99% of patients, it only worked to stop excessive underarm sweating in 61% of patients.
The complications of the surgery should be considered by anyone considering having this procedure done. Among the 300 people studied, the complications included 2 cases of irregular heartbeat. Seven patients suffered a condition that results from unintended cutting or damage to nerves near those that were designed to the severed by the surgery. This can demonstrate itself in several different way including eyelid drooping and decreased pupil size. In addition, six patients suffered from the onset of pain caused by damage to the nerves located between the ribs.
While surgery is an option to people who suffer from excessive sweating, it is important to know that research shows there to be significant complications arising from this kind of surgery. It would be worthwhile to evaluate and trial the many other remedies that are not as invasive as a surgical procedure.

How to Maintain a Healthy Spine: A Chiropractor's Perspective

To maintain a healthy spine you need to be in good shape to start with. If you have a recurrent headache, neck or back pain, this is a sure sign that your spine has a problem. Before you try to maintain your spine be sure to consult your local chiropractor to ensure your spinal problems are corrected, and that you are in fact eligible to maintain a healthy spine and posture.
Spinal maintenance essentially requires four things, these are: appropriate intake of water, effective ergonomics at work and home, proper exercise and movement and lastly - spinal adjustments.
Drinking plenty of water helps to lubricate the joints and has been shown to slow or even prevent arthritis. Your general health depends on your level of hydration. Your chiropractor may also suggest glucosamine and chondroitin to help hydrate degenerative joints throughout the body.
Setting up your workspace properly to minimise repetitive strain on muscles and joints is important. Try following a few simple tips from your local chiropractor like: avoiding lifting whilst twisting, ensuring a good upright seated posture and taking regular breaks from sitting. These simple changes to your work activities will all aid in spinal maintenance.
It is important to exercise to maintain flexibility and movement in muscles and joints. Again it is important to only exercise on a stable, corrected spine. If you attempt to exercise on a damaged, misaligned spine, eventually more damage will occur. Your local chiropractor may wish to organise an exercise regime at an appropriate time, usually after spinal correction is achieved.
Spines require adjustments in order to maintain optimum function. Like a car, our spines require a service from time to time. Due to the unnatural stressors placed on our bodies our spines are simply ill equipped to adapt to modern living. Regular spinal adjustments from your chiropractor will ensure small problems don't turn into larger ones. These maintenance spinal adjustments have little to do with pain relief; they are intended for overall health maintenance and vitality.
Spines cannot be maintained by exercise alone. They require an initial correction and subsequent maintenance adjustments in order to provide long lasting joint, muscle and nerve health. Start your journey towards better health today by following these simple tips.
